American College History of Bogota

The American School of Bogotá, was founded in 1869 by the Presbyterian missionary Kate MacFarren, who began teaching English to 18 girls. In 1885 the Reverend Thomas H. Candor and his wife Margarita initiated the American College for boys. The American Schools gave the opportunity to offer the best possible education, and to shape the character of many young Colombians under Christian principles. By offering a quality education, many parents saw in it an alternative to educate their children. Important personalities of the country were trained in their classrooms: like, one of the daughters of General Rafael Uribe, Dr. Enrique Olaya Herrera, Drs. Luis and Agustín Nieto Caballero, who later founded the Modern Gym; Dr. Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento, Dr. Orlando Fals Borda, founder of the Faculty of Sociology of the National University, among others.

During eleven years of my life in school I have seen its transformation and I have been happy, I remember when there was no videobin, when the auditorium was more classic, I remember the paintings on the walls of preschool, my teachers, I remember the fun sandbox that surrounded him tires, I miss my time in preschool a lot, my presentations in the auditorium, to disguise myself, the Christmas show. Thinking about the history of my school makes me feel special because I am part of it and she is part of mine.
